Barfi, borfi or burfi is a dense milk based sweet confectionery from the Indian subcontinent, a type of mithai (a sweet). The name is a derivative of the Persian word barf, which means snow.
A few of the famous varieties of barfi include coconut barfi (made with coconut), besan barfi (made with gram flour), kaaju barfi (made with cashews), pista barfi (made with ground pistachios), and sing barfi (made with peanuts).[1] The main ingredients of plain barfis include condensed milk and sugar. The ingredients are cooked in a vessel until the mixture solidifies. They are then cut into square, diamond or round shapes.
Coconut barfi is one of the famous Indian sweets and is made with desiccated coconut. It's super delicious and very easy to make. If you want to make a deliciously sweet Indian mithai/dessert at home in minutes, then coconut barfi is one of the best options.
I required very few ingredients: desiccated coconut, sweetened condensed milk, some chopped pistachios for garnishing (optional) and some melted ghee. You can also use cardamom powder or rose water for flavouring.
It's one of the delicious dessert for those who like/love coconut, like for me. My husband and I, we love coconut a lot, so this coconut barfi is one of our favourite Indian sweets.
It comes in various colours: white, green or pink. The food colour is used to give barfi different colours. I normally use red food colour to give it a pink colour.
I also made two color coconut barfi, white and pink and then place the one coloured barfi over pink to make two layered coconut barfi.
We normally make coconut barfi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan/Rakhi (an Indian festival). Sometimes we also make them on birthday's or in Diwali (another popular festival of India).
Here I am sharing you the pink coloured coconut barfi that you can make easily at home and can enjoy it with your loved ones.
