Raw Mango Curry

Raw Mango Curry

Raw Mango curry or Kacche aam curry is a dish quite popular in India. It’s normal to make variety of dishes out of mangoes either raw or ripe in the mango season.

This is my favourite dish, my mother use to cook this for me and I learned this from her. When I eat this I feel so happy from inside.

This dish is very easy to cook, requires very less time and too good in taste. I personally like this dish with jeera (cumin seeds) rice , green chillies and onion salad. Normally we cook this for lunch for for dinner.

Raw mango curry is an easy to make and tasty dish which goes very well with steamed or jeera (cumin seeds) rice and onion salad.

  Recipe Servings: 2 - 3
  Cooking time: 10 Minutes

Ingredients

  • Raw Mangoes - 3
  • Cumin Seeds (jeera) - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder  - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp
  • Water (to make gravy) - 2 cups

Preparation

  • Wash the mangoes properly. Peel them and cut them into pieces.

  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker.

  • Once the oil gets hot add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

  • Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and sugar into it and mix it well. You may add more sugar if the mangoes are very sour in taste. So use sugar as per the sourness of the raw mangoes.

  • Now add already peeled and chopped mango pieces into it. Mix well.

  • Add water to it and mix again. You may use more or less water as per the amount of gravy you want to have.

  • Pressure cook for 5-7 minutes.

  • Switch off the flame. When the pressure drops on its own, open the lid.

  • If the curry/gravy appears thin, you may simmer it till it reaches the desired consistency.

  • And if the gravy appears thick, you may add water and simmer for few minutes.

  • Raw mango curry is ready to serve.

  • Serve it hot with steamed rice or jeera rice and with onion salad.
